SI Resorts still hasn’t built anything. Mississippi $410M Mega Project w/ $10M in Bonds and Tax Breaks gone Missin’

📰 Based on recent reporting from Mary Perez of the Sun Herald, the 75-acre Blue Water Beach was one of SI’s first of many “first” locations.

Not mentioned at the Venture’s Launch Party earlier in 2022, the June 2022 news about D’Iberville came as a “surprise to many people on the Mississippi Coast and beyond, but it’s been in the works for one year.”

D’Iberville City Council Voted unanimously, Harrison County Supervisors approved $10M in TIF Bonds on 8/8/2022 and then… 🦗🦗

Gunther hits the road for his first on-location report. He also learns what’s up in Orlando. 🚐📡

Key points:

  1. Unanimous City Council approval, Tax Breaks, and $10M in County TIF Bonds - the project was slated to begin in early 2023 and open in late 2024.

  2. Despite the Mayor and City Council extending the agreements to provide incentives to the developers, they have expired. So has the property contract.

  3. City Manager of D’Iberville said, “Interest rates are so high that it’s just too expensive for them to proceed.”

“D’Iberville isn’t the only city waiting for construction to begin. The developers, who opened the first Sports Illustrated resort in the Dominican Republic, announced plans for another in Orlando at the same time as D’Iberville. Construction hasn’t begun in Florida.”
